After my brother's wedding, I was discouraged and really missed being in a First Place group. Fortunately, I was able to find one at Calvary Baptist church, a large church not too far from my home. I stayed there for quite a while, even taking over as a leader eventually. I really enjoyed being in the group-- the accountability and the spiritual aspect of the program is so essential for me. Over and over I re-learn the idea that I cannot do this with my own strength, that I must rely on the Lord for His power and I can also lean on my fellow group members.
Being at Calvary was like Club Med for a First Place leader. The large church had money budgeted for our program, we had adequate facilities, good TVs and video players. We even had access to fitness programs over in their Family Life Center. It was so nice to have the support of the church leadership, knowing they were praying for us and wanting us to succeed.
